Christian Counseling

For many individuals, faith is not separate from healing — it is part of the foundation that brings meaning, grounding, and hope during difficult seasons.

I offer Christian counseling for teens (12+) and adults across Florida who desire the option to integrate their faith into the therapy process. My approach remains clinically grounded and evidence-based, while honoring the role that spirituality and biblical truth can play in emotional and nervous system healing.

Faith integration is always guided by the client’s preference and comfort level.

What is Christian Counseling?

Christian counseling is a form of therapy that thoughtfully integrates evidence-based clinical approaches with the client’s personal faith, values, and spiritual beliefs when desired.

In our work together, faith elements such as prayer, biblical reflection, or spiritual themes are only incorporated at the client’s request. Many clients appreciate having a space where both their mental health and spiritual life are respected and supported.

This approach can be especially meaningful for individuals who:

  • want their faith acknowledged in therapy

  • feel disconnected spiritually during difficult seasons

  • are navigating anxiety or trauma within a faith context

My Heart and Background

My own faith journey has deeply shaped the way I show up for others — with humility, compassion, and a strong belief that healing is possible even in the most overwhelming seasons.

I am actively involved in my local community, including leading Bible studies and supporting adolescents through school-based involvement and service. I believe God often works through both spiritual and practical means, and I am honored to walk alongside clients who desire that integration.

At the same time, my clinical work remains grounded in evidence-based practices, ensuring that care is both spiritually sensitive and therapeutically sound. Faith integration is always guided by client preference and is never required for effective treatment.

How Faith and Mental Health Work Together

Emerging research in psychology and neuroscience suggests that personal faith and spiritual practices can support emotional regulation, stress reduction, and resilience for many individuals (Koenig, 2012).

Studies have found that for some people, faith practices such as prayer, meditation, and spiritual reflection may help:

  • reduce perceived stress

  • increase feelings of hope and meaning

  • support emotional regulation

  • improve coping during adversity

  • enhance nervous system calming responses

When integrated thoughtfully and ethically, faith can become one of many supportive resources in the healing process.

When Faith Has Been a Source of Hurt

For some individuals, religious or spiritual experiences have been confusing, painful, or even traumatic. This is sometimes referred to as religious trauma and can include experiences such as spiritual shame, fear-based teachings, loss of community, or feeling unsafe within faith environments.

If this is part of your story, therapy can provide a safe and respectful space to process what you’ve been through at your own pace. Your experiences will always be met with compassion and without judgment.

How EMDR Can Help with Religious Trauma

As an EMDR Certified therapist, I use EMDR therapy to help the brain and nervous system reprocess distressing experiences including those connected to spiritual or religious contexts.

When religious trauma is present, EMDR can help:

  • reduce emotional reactivity connected to past experiences

  • decrease shame, fear, or internal distress

  • support nervous system regulation

  • allow space for clearer personal meaning and choice moving forward

Our work always moves at a thoughtful, client-led pace. For some individuals, this process helps separate past painful experiences from their present sense of safety and identity. (To learn more about EMDR, click here)

A Respectful, Client-Led Approach

Whether faith has been a source of strength, confusion, or hurt, you remain in control of how much spiritual content is incorporated into your therapy process. My role is to provide a space that is:

  • emotionally safe

  • clinically grounded

  • culturally and spiritually sensitive

  • paced to support your nervous system

Healing is not about forcing beliefs, it is about helping your mind and body feel more regulated, clear, and supported as you move forward.

What to Expect in Sessions

Early sessions focus on:

  • building safety and trust

  • understanding your goals

  • assessing whether faith integration is desired

  • developing regulation and coping skills

From there, we move at a thoughtful, individualized pace using EMDR, CBT, trauma-informed care, and faith-based support when requested.

Sessions are always collaborative, respectful, and paced to avoid overwhelm.
